any version of spss is user friendly. version 17 is the latest i think. its better that you consult your public health colleagues or a researcher. they will be able to explain to you how to use it. i use the version 16 of spss.

Hi Nino, I use SPSS 15.0, so I'll explain how I would do in that version (may be it is not very different)
First you click in "Transform" and then in "Recode into different variables..."
So, in the window that opens, you choose the variable "age".
Now you click in "Old and new values..." in the box which is indicated "old values" you choose button "Range", now it will be possible for you to write in the box just below the word Range... there you put the number 15. In the box below that one you put the value 19.
Now you look at the box on the right ("new value"), tick the checkbox "Output variables are strings", write in the box next to the word "value:" 15-19
After that you click add.
Now you may repeat the proceding with the other values you want. After you introduced all groups you want, now you click continue. And now you are back to the first window of "recode". Where it is written Output Variable, you choose a new name for this variable you created, it could be "agegroups" for example, you may choose a label too. After all finished you click ok.

Now, to know how many women are in each group. You must click Analyze - Descriptive statiscts - frequency
Choose the variable you've just created (agegroups, for example), than click ok! In the Output file you now can see a table where you can find the percentage!

Ok, that's it! I hope it helps...

I'm glad you were able to do it!

I don't know what is Q312 Pregnancy Outcome (may be it has just in your version)

But to know the ammount of abortion I would use Transform>Count Values Within cases...
And would choose the variables induced abortion and mini-abortion, create a name for the variable and label (Target variable/target label) and define values I would choose that value that means "yes".

I mean, Pregnancy Outcome question 312 contains only numbers data from 1 to 8. I need to know how many "1" (live birth) , "7" ( miniabortion) and so on are there. outcomes are coded with numbers .

Thanks a lot! where did you study spss so quite?? Cool!!
