“I wish you enough”

Recently, I overheard a mother and daughter in their last moments together at the airport as the daughter’s departure had been announced. Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the mother said: “I wish you enough. “The daughter replied, “Mom, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I…Continue

A Word of Advice from an Informed Mom

As most mothers will know, this is a full-time job that does not stop even if I have a career. My priority will always be my family and home. Keeping them safe and healthy at all times is imperative. So, I am constantly on the lookout for tips and resources that will help me do so.

One of my pet peeves is changing seasons, which more often than not, results in my children falling ill. This is the time when everything goes out of gear. It also creates all round discomfort for my children, which then becomes a problem for my husband and me. The monsoons are that time of the year when these issues become extremely pronounced. Viral infections and fever, as well as the risk of dengue and malaria, can scare any mother. Hopefully, there are many ways in which all you moms out there can take care of their family, while enjoying the monsoons at the same time. So here is a quick guide on some of the things I do at home to battle those monsoon woes.

1. Healthy diet

Following a good, healthy diet that comprises seasonal fruits and vegetables is vital, as it helps build immunity. I usually take street food off the menu and prepare fresh food for every meal. I also try and ensure that we consume minimal raw food such as salads, during this season. And even if we do, I make sure to wash all these raw ingredients thoroughly, and with clean water before eating them.

2. Correct liquids

Like all kids, my children too love cold drinks. But this season isn't the best time for them to drink too much of these as they can easily catch a cold. I try to replace these with things like hot chocolate and smoothies, which are delicious, safe and in some cases, quite nutritious. Sometimes, I even slip in a glass of warm milk with a mix of their choice before bedtime. And when it comes to drinking water, it is filtered and boiled to ensure there are no germs at all.

3. A remedy for fungus

These are two things that can instantly lead to illnesses. Many homes have damp corners that we are not even aware of. It is important to air out your furniture, mattresses, cushions and other belongings in your cupboards whenever the sun is out. This ensures they are dry and free of fungus growth. Additionally, sweeping and mopping your home should be carried out routinely during this season.

4. Keep mosquitos at bay

These pesky insects are one of my biggest worries because they can cause numerous problems. I generally use repellents in the mornings and the evenings to get rid of mosquitoes. You can easily switch on liquid repellents to restrict the entry of mosquitoes into your home or consider planting insect repelling herbs like chamomile and basil in and around your home. Mesh or wire windows and doors are also quite effective when it comes to keeping mosquitoes out. Also, remove all stagnant water from your home routinely so that these insects cannot thrive there.

Choose your new home from 15 lac+ choices.

5. Suitable attire

Another thing I ensure during this season is that my kids always dress in clean, dry clothes that keep them warm and comfortable, especially while sleeping at night. Even when going outdoors, the kids are covered up to prevent the possibility of bites or catching any illness. And carrying umA Word of Advice from an Informed Mombrellas and raincoats are essential when we go anywhere.

Personal hygiene is yet another thing that I make sure my kids follow perfectly.
