Event Description

Overview:

For a law that has been around for so long, you would think that we would know what the FLSA means by now. Ever changing regulations and the multitude of suits being filed demonstrate otherwise. This seminar will go through all of the nuances of the FLSA and will cover the most frequent mistakes employers are making over and over again. We will discuss the employer/employee relationship under the FLSA, exemptions, what time is compensable, and ways to decrease your overtime liability and much more!

Why should you attend:

Private plaintiff attorneys have filing multitudes of FLSA cases against employers, and it not just about misclassification issues. Attorneys make impermissible deductions from wages, don't count all hours worked in determining overtime due, and simply not doing the calculations correctly. The Department of Labor is on the band wagon too with a budget of $311 billion. In addition, the DOL has requested $104.5 billion for its 2015 budget for discretionary and mandatory programs. As Labor Secretary Hilda Solis said, "There's a new sheriff in town." Suits under the FLSA rarely involve just one individual - the DOL and private attorneys almost always are targeting mistakes that affect a large number of employees and will bring either a class or collective action. There is no other way to look at it - FLSA suits are on the rise, and they are expensive!
